The Uniontown Athletic Club is on a mission – to make sure every area child has everything they need for the upcoming school year.
“The organization was incorporated in 2016, but the ball field has been around a long time. We wanted to create a long lasting, safe environment for kids of all ages to learn and grow through a fun sport. We love giving back to our community,” said UAC Board Member Karessa Haley.
The UAC provides free haircuts and school supplies at the annual Back to School Bash. Recently the club held a benefit dinner for a grieving family. The club has gone from 6 teams last year to 12 teams this year. When asked about future plans, Karessa states, “We would love to see our field transformed into a multi-use field so that we could have softball and baseball games in Uniontown. We want to add a field and another batting cage. We are a very small organization and unfortunately we don’t qualify for grants; we rely on our community. Everything we do and all the money we raise goes straight back to the club and to the kids. Our back to school event is coming up August 3rd. It helps give children the essential things they need to start school with confidence – school supplies and haircuts. But we need help in securing the supplies. Uniontown Baptist Church has partnered with us for the last three years and has been a Godsend. We could not do it without them. Charlene Fite has helped us a lot and Lillie Willet helped us by organizing Stuff the Bus last year.”
The Back to School Bash will be held on August 3rd from 11 am to 2 pm at Uniontown Baptist Church. There will be food, games, a dunking booth and a bounce around, free school supplies, and free haircuts for school aged kids (5 to 18).
